English as culture and communication: Future tense (March13th)

There are two basic structures to express future tense:

a) The auxiliary "will" is used mainly to express predictions or spontaneous decisions.

will to express predictions :

Example1: I think you _______a great professionist, you are a hardworking guy. ( we assume an event or fact because we have an evidence which in this case that the man is hardworking)

Example 2: Guess what! The fortune teller said to me :

"You will be rich"

A fortune teller is a person who makes predictions by using a crystal ball or by reading cards or hands.

"will" to express a spontaeous decision:

Example : I'm really exhausted. Tomorrow, I have to be early at work, I think I will go to bed. Good night! ( the first sentence is the reason which makes me make a decision immediately)

So this is the structure to use will auxiliary :

subjetc + will + verb simple

Contraction: "'ll"

Example: She'll be a beatiful woman when she grows up.

I think, They'll be happy in their new life together.

We'll have fun at the party.Come with us!

Interrogative : Will you marry me?
Affirmative : Of course I will.
Negative Statements:
Will you be my partner at the prom?

No I won´t. I will be Louis' partner. I'm sorry

A prom is a gratuation party, a scholar dace to celebrate the end of the scholar year.

b) The structure " going to" to express short and long-term plans

It is necessary to keep in mind these elements to make expressions in future tense by using this structure:

Include the verb "be" in present tense, this is: am, is, are, affirmative or negative:

Example: We are going to go on vacation next month.

My father is going to buy me a new cell phone.

I am not going to go to the prom. I'm really sad.

They aren't going to come with us to the cinema. They have some other plans.

A simple form verb goes after the structure "going to":

Example: She is going to help me with my English homework.

They are going to buy a new house

Natally isn't going to come to school tomorrow,

she's sick.

The general structure is:

subject + verb "be" + going to + verb simple form

Exmaple: We are going to have a party tonight.

Interrogative: What are you going to do this weekend?

Answer : I'm going to be off for the weekend. I'm going to go the Veracruz Carnival. Why?

To be off; you leave your place for a short time, you go out of your city or neighborhood.

Negative: I am not going to travel to London this semmer. I`m going to stay to work.
